 Sr.  Mold Technician

Job Overview:

The injection molding technician is responsible for interjection molding startup, mold replacement setup, launching of new product series, shutdown procedures, and maintenance and modification of parameter settings for optimum production.

 

Responsibilities:

Actively participate in all safety, quality and production related meetings as well as promote safety throughout the department.

  • Mold first article parts using complex tools and/or difficult materials.
  • Analyze molds for cleaning and repairs before storing and then document any repair requirements.
  • Analyze and troubleshoot non-performing molds to get molds back online and producing.

Perform routine mold maintenance and simple mold repairs such as replacing ejector or core pins.

  • Create, modify and update mold set-up documentation and special instructions.
  • Properly identify and quarantine all unacceptable parts.
  • Perform maintenance and repairs on all equipment in the molding department.
  • Disassemble and clean machine barrels and injection screws.
  • Strictly follow the 5S program.

Support quality, yield, efficiency and capacity improvements in accordance with company objectives, including analyzing processes and recommending improvements and solutions.

  • Mentor, lead and direct work of others.
  • Participate in training junior mold technicians.
  • Use experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
  • Work under general supervision

Position Requirements:

  1. Education: Associate’s degree or equivalent 

 

  1. Experience: 8 - 10 years of experience working with injection molding machines.

 

  1. Licenses/Certifications: Plastic Injection Molding

 

 

  1. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

 

  • The ability to troubleshoot the current molding process using scientific molding principles and resolve issues related to production quality (such as flash, shorts, splay, burns, voids, etc.)
  • The ability to create a new process using scientific molding principles to optimize cycle time and overall part quality
  • The ability to troubleshoot the robot program to ensure proper adjustment of positions, speeds and timers to optimize cycle
  • The ability to troubleshoot auxiliary equipment such as blenders, mold and water temperature controllers, hot stampers, welders, baggers, stakers, and specialty automation equipment
  • A team-driven attitude to work together and support department initiatives such as 5S and Total Productive Maintenance Systems (TPM)
  • The ability to complete production paperwork, which includes inventory accuracy

 

Work Conditions:

 

  • occasionally cold, hot, moving mechanical parts, condense work areas and high noise levels (hearing protection will be provided)
