POSITION SUMMARY:

The quality engineer provides technical leadership for all aspects of quality engineering throughout the product realization process at NORMA. This position will handle multiple projects from product inception, development, through manufacture and customer use. The quality engineer provides a key role to ensure product meets defined quality standards, and any regulatory requirements. The quality engineer supports activities to meet key objectives that are set by senior management.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Ensure all employees are working safely and working in a safe environment.
  • Train and encourage employees to exercise safe work practices.
  • Ensure all employees are working within Norma St Clair’s policies and procedures.
  • Maximize and maintain plant through-put using NBS tools.
  • Analyze failures, implement corrective and preventative actions to respond to customer complaints (both internal and external)
  • Knowledge of Customer Specific Requirements.
  • Communicate clearly and confidently with respect to technical matters internally, with suppliers, and customers.
  • Initiate actions as it is required to ensure project/team success.
  • Perform quality audits of supplier operating systems as required.
  • Provide technical support and training to engineering and manufacturing departments/personnel.
  • Develop and initiates standards and methods for inspection, testing and evaluation.
  • Plans sampling procedures, develops forms, and creates instructions for recording, evaluating reports and reliability data.
  • Develops and implements methods and procedures for disposition of discrepant material and devises methods to assess cost and responsibility.
  • Participate in Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) and feasibility review meetings.
  • Join and support the Internal Audit Team. Perform internal audits as necessary.
  • Ensure good housekeeping / 5S practices.
  • Comply with QMS and EHS Standard policies and procedures.
  • Comply with Emergency Preparedness policies and procedures
  • Comply with all Company and Corporate policies.
  • Supports and promotes the company quality objectives, policies and procedures.
  • Supports and promotes plant and departmental Balanced Scorecard objectives.

JOB QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:          (R) = Required (P) = Preferred  

  • Bachelor’s degree (P)
  • Four (4) years professional experience in a manufacturing quality role. (R)
  • ASQ certified quality engineer (CQE). (P)
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented, collaborative environment. (R)
  • Complete understanding of all elements required in an AIAG formatted PPAP. (R)
  • Proficient in quality analysis tools such as 8D, SPC, and PFMEA. (R)
  • Comprehensive understanding of IATF16949 requirements. (R)
  • Able to analyze data by completing hypothesis, normal distribution, and process capability analysis test. (R)
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office software. (R)
  • Strong problem-solving skills with ability to teach basic problem-solving techniques to facilitate problem solving team events with cross functional teams. (R)
  • Proficient with use of micrometers, calipers, comparator, bore gauge, etc. (R)
  • Travel to supplier/customer locations to resolve problems and initiate containment as necessary. Overnight travel may be required in some cases. (R)

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job:

  • Frequently operates a computer and other office productivity equipment such as a calculator, copy machine, and measurement hand tools.
  • Regularly moves about the office and manufacturing floor.
  • Regularly remains in a stationary position.
  • Frequently communicates with supervisors, colleagues, customers and suppliers; and must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
  • Occasionally transports up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to maintain considerable levels of concentration while working under frequent time pressures and interruptions.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED: (Some of the following certificates, licenses, and/or registrations may be acquired through training, but the employee must be able to demonstrate the capacity to obtain these requirements when placed in this position):

ASQ Certification preferred.

 

VISUAL ACUITY:

  • Accommodation as required for reading computer screens and documents.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job: 

  • Time split between indoor office environment and manufacturing plant environment. In plant, regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes, machine lubricants and airborne particles. This position may require the use of personal protective equipment.
