Rotational Engineer - Supply Chain

Summary

Under the guidance of the Supply Chain Manager, engineer will rotate through 4 key Supply Chain functions within the organization; warehousing, logistics, production scheduling, material planning. This is a 2 year program, spending 6 months in each position.

 

Program Objective

To provide SCM foundation & career track for future leaders as manafers or innovators at Norma Group

 

Location:

The assignment is located in Lindsay, California

 

Time Frame

4 rotations at 4-6 months each a total time of 2 years

Ideally 1 additional bubble assignment at a Norma site

Permanent Job placement adter 2 – 2.5 years, as available and suitable

 

Responsibilities

Warehousing

  • Ensures all Warehouse Associates adhere to NDS Safety policies and processes
  • Trains and coaches all Warehouse Associates to be more productive and to accurately fill NDS customer orders in agreement with the Warehouse SOP.
  • Helps with the developing, implementing and maintaining of warehouse procedures.
  • Provides immediate feedback to the Warehouse Supervisor on all warehouse activities.
  • Leads by example and executes all processes with a swift and team spirit attitude
  • Coordinates with customer service the execution of extraordinary customer requests
  • Takes ownership for all aspects of the day to day warehouse operations
  • Helps the Warehouse Supervisor plan the daily warehouse activities

 

Logistics

  • Manage routing and carrier selection for all outbound shipments, striking a thoughtful balance between freight costs, transit time, and quality of service, thereby ensuring happy customer and positive financial results
  • Coordinate with central functions to optimize lanes/carrier choices based on feedback from customers and internal analysis on carrier reliability/service
  • Audit shipments for accuracy of BOL and ASN for both prepaid and collect customers
  • Frequently communicate with trucking companies (LTL and TL), small package carriers, and intermodal providers to schedule shipments and manage carrier relationships
  • Manage a shipping/receiving calendar to better coordinate with procurement/distribution
  • Arrange expedited (same day) deliveries when necessary
  • Track and analyze shipment failures to determine and correct root cause
  • Escalate service issues to the Americas Logistics Manager, and directly to the local carrier management, in a timely manner to prevent service disruptions
  • Respond to customer inquiries and resolve customer logistics issues
  • Ensure quality of all logistics services and processes within the facility
  • Audit and coach warehouse employees on the most efficient methods of building pallets
  • Act as local liaison for claims and compliance issues. Archives and retrieves paperwork as necessary to ensure traceability needed to dispute charges/fines.
  • Identify and communicate labeling and packaging issues that could impact accuracy of shipments back to production
  • Conduct cycle counts and ensure inventory accuracy in the warehouse
  • Prepare/Ensure accurate bills of lading (weights/classes)

 

Production Scheduling

  • Evaluate work center capacity loading and recommend changes to achieve Master Production Schedule. Sequences work orders to support service levels, efficiency and lowest cost.
  • Uses MPS, inventory reports and other relevant demand data to generate and ensure timely release of work orders to the production floor to allow on-time build and delivery of assigned products.
  • Work closely with Business Development, Sales and Marketing to develop and market new products.

 

Material Planning

  • Ensure on timely delivery (OTD) of purchased materials to Lindsay plant in support of NDS sales and production plan.
  • Work closely with other departments to avoid, resolve and minimize build schedule interruptions due to purchased material shortages.
  • Participate on cross-functional new product teams or engineering changes.

 

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree with an emphasis on Supply Chain, Manufacturing or Business Administration.
  • APICS certification and/or affiliation a plus.
  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems required
  • Knowledge of MS Office required and SYSPRO experience preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills along with good verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • Knowledge if inventory management, logistics, customer service, and quality assurance in a manufacturing environment is preferred.
  • Solid analytical and problem solving skills. 
  • Must be a self-starter
  • Ability to communicate proactively with internal and external partners required.
  • Ability to maintain composure in stressful situations. 
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks at one time. 
  • Ability to uphold safety standards, participates in continuous process improvement on the job, and follows our business best practices.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative and dynamic team environment, be punctual, and follow instructions.
  • Bilingual (Spanish) is a plus

 

Work Conditions

  • Warehouse environment to include inside and outside storage space which may be noisy and dirty
  • Personal Protective equipment required – Safety Glasses, closed toe footwear and ear plugs
