Maintenance Supervisor
NDS, Inc. – Lindsay Operations
POSITION DESCRIPTION
Supervision: Under the direct supervision of the Maintenance Manager.
Under the direction of the Maintenance Manager, the incumbent provides complete oversight of maintenance activities for all company assets. The incumbent supports the company mission to maintain all assets in a safe, reliable, and efficient operating condition. This goal is supported through guidance and direction to all maintenance employees, through training, scheduling, preventative maintenance programs, through management of spare parts and supplies and through communications at all levels of management. Generally works un-supervised with a certain degree of latitude for creativity and independent judgment.
Directly supervises the following positions: Machinery Maintenance Leadsperson, Facilities Maintenance Leadsperson.
Work scheduled on the 1st shift – 40 hours per week. (May include overtime & weekend work)
SCOPE OF WORK PERFORMED
Provides direct supervision, advice and training to all maintenance staff persons.
Assists mechanics in troubleshooting machine problems.
Plans work assignments and schedules in concert with production scheduling.
Plans staffing requirements and manpower schedules.
Procures necessary tools, parts and supplies for work assignments.
Organizes and maintains spare part storage systems.
Solicits bids for work by outside vendors.
Monitors work and safety aspects of work done by ‘outside service contractors’.
Assists in planning new equipment acquisitions and installation.
Is proactive in promoting safe work practices by all maintenance employees. Conducts monthly safety meetings.
Interviews prospective maintenance employees and makes recommendations for their hire.
Provides employee guidance as to company rules and regulations.
Assists in preparing the yearly operating and capital budgets.
Keeps Plant Engineer informed as to the status of all maintenance activities on a daily basis.
Evaluates and plans training needs for specific maintenance skill sets and crafts.
GENERAL QUALIFICATION GUIDELINES
Experience and Education
Experience and formal training in industrial mechanics and building trades required.
Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent is required.
Graduation from trade school or two year college with major in industrial maintenance.
Experience and education may be substituted for one another.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Requires good organization skills and the ability to work with limited supervision.
Should have above average experience, knowledge, and understanding of industrial machinery mechanics, electricity, rough and finish carpentry, plumbing and pipefitting, solvent welding of PVC pipe and fittings,
metal cutting , welding, & brazing., HVAC and ventilation equipment, roofing systems repair & maintenance, concrete and masonry repairs, painting preparation and application, rigging, safety procedures, and alarm systems.
Should have basic proficiency using computers for e-mail, internet services, and basic software programs.
Must be ‘qualified’ to work on electrical systems up to 480 volts per NDS defined procedures.

Must be familiar with the safe operation of hand tools, power tools, and equipment common to the maintenance of industrial systems and machinery.
Certified forklift operator.
Must have clean DMV report, as the job requires driving company vehicles.
Physical Demands & Work Conditions
To perform essential functions of the job, the following applies: Requires standing, stretching, bending, walking, lifting and transporting a minimum of 50 lbs.
Must be able to climb stairs.
Must be able to climb silo ladders to an elevation of 40’.
Work involves working with and exposure to oils, gear lubricants, greases, lubrication equipment, water treatment chemicals, cleaning chemicals, cleaning & disposal equipment, paint & painting equipment, high levels of noise, and welding fumes.
Non-smoking environment.
Will be required to wear personal protective equipment as appropriate for the work required.
Requirements
Must furnish standard hand tools and tool box per attached Tool List
Must wear protective footwear during all work hours. (steel toed boots)
Must wear provided eye protection and hearing protection.
Must follow all company safety rules and regulations. Must be proactive in protecting self, subordinates, other workers, and company assets from harm.
